Landscaper

Max L.

I was born in Seattle, Washington, and raised in the White Center neighborhood. From a young age, I've had many industrious jobs and hobbies. For example, my dad began remodeling our home when I was 7, a relatively long, multi-year process. I was required to help with the remodeling as a part of my chores. I learned a great deal as a result.

Outside of the home, I sought out jobs that were different and interesting. At age 12, I had the opportunity to help make the Salmon Waves sculpture at Sea at Seattle's Ballard Locks. I drilled thousands of holes and assisted in the sculpture's assembly. You can see the sculpture here https://seattleoffice.stqry.app/en/story/13285

I went on to learn masonry and stonework for a few years before high school. In my late teens, I started working in restaurants and studying the culinary arts, working at such establishments as Skillet, Pizzeria Credo, and Uncle Mike's BBQ.

Then after some local community college study, I took off to the shores of Lake Superior to study at Northern Michigan University. I spent most of my time there exploring the wilderness of the Upper Peninsula and, instead of attending school, learned to forage and grow mushrooms, identify wild edibles, and prepare some delicious food in the backcountry.

With my newly acquired skills, I set off for Alaska, where I lived for five years, working in the woods and through the channels of the southeast panhandle, guiding, doing construction, improving trail work, fishing, and mining.

After the pandemic, I decided to move back home to Puget Sound to be closer to my friends and family. Now I bring my love of natural beauty to the city and suburbs.

As a landscaper, I use my broad knowledge of sustainable off-grid systems, earthwork, construction, and horticulture to bring that fleeting beauty of the wild into our community.
